Delilah thought she’d found something real. But after she sends a private photo to the boy she’s falling for, everything changes. The fallout spreads fast—through her school, her family, and newspapers—and no one seems to care what she meant, only what she did. As the adults around Delilah scramble for control, and her best friend’s loyalty begins to fracture, Delilah is left to decide what who she can trust.

Unprotected Text is a sharp, emotionally charged play about what can’t be erased. With characters that feel pulled from real life and dialogue that crackles with humor and tension, this is a story that refuses to look away…from the thrill of first love to the harsh glare of public judgment.

Written for teen actors and modern audiences, this play opens the door to urgent conversations about the shifting rules of intimacy in a connected world.

Praise for This Play

“A cleverly crafted and somewhat painfully honest look at technology’s role in a generation. … Craftily illustrates a worrisome point about the 21st century–the idea that digital communication has replaced genuine, interpersonal connection. You’ll want to put your cell phones down for this one.” - Kelsey Balzli, Theatre Is Easy

“Exactly what drama that takes on society’s difficult issues is supposed to be. … Brilliant.” -  Robert Abrams, Explore Dance

“Kushner uses drama, comedy, and Delilah’s story to shed light on technology’s impact on the younger and older generations, as well as society and the legal system, which … has not caught up with the usage of technology.” - Amy Rosen, News Transcript

“A quick-moving and cleverly-structured of the dynamics and power shifts within relationships, and how we navigate them in our brave new electronically-enhanced world. … Interesting, quite enjoyable, and thought provoking.” - Heather McAllister, NY Theatre Now
