FAQs

A performance license is a legal requirement that allows you to stage a play publicly, whether or not you charge admission. It ensures that the playwright is compensated for their work and that you have the right to perform the play for an audience. Even in non-commercial settings like schools, a performance license is still required. Purchasing the appropriate number of licenses ensures your production complies with copyright law and supports the creators of the work.

To purchase performance licenses, simply select the play you want from our catalog. During the checkout process, you’ll be prompted to choose the number of performances you’re planning. Each performance requires a separate license. Once you’ve selected the number, proceed with your order, and your license(s) will be issued along with your script download.

At Gitelman & Good Publishers, we are dedicated to providing high-quality dramatic work specifically for high school drama programs. We focus on curating a catalog of scripts that are not only challenging and engaging but also appropriate for young performers and audiences. Every play in our catalog can be previewed in full, ensuring that educators and directors can make informed choices easily. Our licensing process is designed to be simple and stress-free: no need to purchase individual scripts—just select your play, choose the number of performances, and download an instant PDF. Additionally, we provide extensive resources for educators, including performance tips, Classroom Companions, and support materials that enrich both the rehearsal process and classroom learning. Our mission is to remove any cost or logistical barriers so that educational drama programs can access meaningful, memorable theatrical experiences.

When we price a play, we multiply $10 by the number of cast and crew; this ensures a writer is accurately compensated by preventing underbuying a script and photocopying it. Script royalties and performance royalties are aligned with industry and market standards. Additionally, once a writer is a member of the GGP family, our editor works with them to develop new work for the catalog.
