Claudia Haas
Claudia focuses on theatre for inter-generational audiences. Her plays have been produced in all fifty states and on six continents (still waiting for Antarctica to come through). She enjoys celebrating young women in science and history who are forgotten or not in the mainstream of your history class. She has recently been honored with the Charlotte Chorpenning Award which celebrates a playwrights body of work that has been influential in the youth theatre field. She has fifty published plays with over 1,700 productions. Honors include: American Alliance for Theatre Education’s Distinguished Play Award, Aurand Harris Memorial Children’s Playwriting Contest, Old Miner’s Children’s Playwriting Contest (twice), University of Central Missouri’s Children’s Play Contest, Anna Zornio Memorial Playwriting Contest, East Valley Children’s Theatre’s New Play Contest, Unpublished Play Reading Project, Playwrights for Change, and the Jackie White Memorial Play Writing Contest (twice). Her plays have been developed through the Thinktank TYA, Bonderman Symposium, NYU New Plays for Young Audiences, Playwrights in our Schools Grant (twice), Growing Stage New Play Development (twice) and Purple Crayon Players at Northwestern University. Member: Dramatist Guild of America, American Alliance for Theatre Education, Playwrights Center, and Honor Roll Playwrights. She lives in White Bear Lake, Minnesota (which is not really an iceberg… well, sometimes) with a forgiving family during deadlines.
