After the death of her father, thirteen-year-old Nina moves with her mother to her grandmother’s home, carrying grief she doesn’t yet know how to express. As she adjusts to a new school and an unfamiliar place, Nina retreats into silence, unsure how to speak about what she’s lost.
Through her grandmother’s stories of ancestry and voice, and a new friend’s introduction to spoken word poetry, Nina begins to discover language for her feelings. Writing becomes a way to hold memory, honor love, and imagine a path forward.
Her Beautiful Sound is a lyrical coming-of-age play about grief, family, and self-expression, celebrating the power of finding your voice—and the healing that comes with being heard.
